How to Change Your Artist Name on Spotify and Other Music Platforms

Last updated on Oct 20, 2025

Choosing your artist name carefully when creating your Indiefy profile is very important, as changing it later can become a challenging process.

It’s not recommended to modify your artist name if you already have an active profile with approved or published releases. However, if you still wish to make the change, you can follow these steps πŸ‘‡

1. Remove your music from all platforms

To change your artist name, the first step is to remove your music from digital stores. This will allow you to re-upload your releases under your new artist name without copyright or duplication issues.

To do this, go to indiefy.net/distributions and manage the removal of your releases from there.

πŸ“Œ Important:

  • Once you request the removal, the process time may vary depending on the store.

  • Stores can take between 3 to 5 business days or up to 21 days to complete the process.

  • Make sure your music has been completely removed from all stores before re-uploading it with your new artist name to avoid potential copyright or duplication issues.

Both PRO and Basic accounts can perform this process.

2. Save your codes and files

Before deleting your music, make sure to save the following information:

  • ISRC and UPC codes

  • Original release dates

  • Audio files and artwork

This information will allow you to keep your statistics and metadata when you re-upload your music.

3. Wait for your releases to be fully removed from stores

Once you’ve requested the removal, you must wait until digital stores have completely removed your releases before re-uploading them with your new artist name.

4. Create your new artist profile

After your releases have been removed, you can create a new account using your new artist name.

When you re-upload your music:

  • Enter the same ISRC and UPC codes you saved earlier.

  • Make sure to add both the new release date and the original release date. This ensures your music appears on stores with its original date, maintaining the continuity of your artist catalog.

This process will allow you to keep your metadata intact and obtain new, updated artist profiles on all platforms without losing your release history.
